Just finished a version of Fight Gone Bad at the gym, then did some obstacles.
I am 27 days into The Streak, and physically I’m started to feel real good.
I think, at the core of it, the current success stems from having fun.
I didn’t jump in quickly and haven’t gone too intense (until now). It’s just been showing up. Doing physical stuff that is enjoyable. Not always, but a lot of the time that’s what it’s been.
It’s reinforcing the notion that fitness success isn’t about intensity, but about consistency. And consistency is a lot easier when you’re having fun.
A big part of that is the obstacle/ninja gym. We didn’t think about exercising or needing to be active when we were kids. We just got together with friends and played tag or sports, or we went to the playground and just did stuff because it was fun.
The obstacle/ninja gym is a playground for adults. (And kids, too.)
It’s fun. And it is engaging and moving the body the way it is meant to be moved.
Also, intentionally not going too intense has meant no injuries, and not feeling destroyed and hurt. That allows me to show up the next day and do something. And that creates a habit that gradually becomes built in to one’s lifestyle.
And that makes getting and staying fit easier.
